Coffee anyone?
Bondi Farmers Market coffee cart have some ‘gold’ waiting to be claimed by keen gardeners and composters. We mean coffee grounds of course.
Spent coffee grounds are what’s leftover after brewing a perfect shot of espresso. They are chemically neutral in the soil, and provide texture and bulk. Worms enjoy it too if you have a worm farm.
Every Saturday and Sunday, at Bondi Beach Public School (the venue for the Markets), they discard over 6kg coffee grounds a day that could be diverted into your soil-making. Take a little, or a lot. Many baristas would love their waste to be recycled, rather than clog up their bins.
Community networks allow a range of exchanges in a sharing economy. Making contact with coffee shops to take their coffee grounds for recycling, will strengthen links in your neighbourhood. And coffee-drinkers who see what you’re doing may just get curious about the broader environmental solutions that this example contains.
So take a container, approach Tim at the cart, and let him know Transition Bondi sent you along.
