It was great to be back at the Bondi Markets (2nd & 4th Saturday of the month) interacting with the humming, colourful crowd and enjoying the gorgeous autumn weather. You really could feel the energy in the air. We chatted with what seemed like a never-ending line up of folk interested in Transition Bondi – signing up to our Newsletter and others keen to become volunteers. So welcome to our new friends and thanks Christine (first stint at the markets), Laura, Freya, Emilie, Chris and Caroline for your help. We had a bonza day!
Let’s hope that the love affair Sydney-siders are having with public transport is a good habit that more and more will stick with. Goes to show we can ditch our over reliance on fuel guzzling cars.
Another item we can ditch is the takeaway coffee cup. They’re lined with plastic (polyethylene), aren’t easily recycled and you have to separate the lid from the cup. In Australia a billion cups end up in landfill every year, and here in Bondi an estimated 57,000 every week are thrown away! Last year TB was part of BYO Cup Week, a Bondi initiative with local cafes asking patrons to use their own keep-cups, a glass jars supplied by the cafe, or simply stop for a few quiet moments and enjoy the deliciousness of their cap/flat white/piccolo/macchiato/whatever onsite. It’s time! to Ditch the Cup.

- Tape the terminals of your batteries to prevent risk of fire.
- Put them in a glass container and keep out of reach of children.
- B-cycle them at your nearest Drop Off point and take your container home for reuse.
