Recipe of the month: Dhal Rasam

Ingredients
2 cups (350g) red split lentils
2 medium onions, diced
3 tblsp oil
Half to 1 tsp cinnamon
Quarter to half tsp ground cloves
Half tsp ground pepper
1 tsp salt
Up to 400ml (1 can) of coconut milk or water
1 tsp turmeric
Method
Rinse lentils
Soak up to 24 hours before needed (this reduces the cooking time)
Using medium heat, fry onions in oil until caramelised
Add cinnamon, cloves, pepper and salt and gently fry for 1 minute
Add lentils and coconut milk (and/or water)
Cook until lentils are soft adding more water if needed
Add turmeric
Add more salt to taste
Stir, serve, enjoy!
Serves 4 people (or 10 as a side dish)
